a halcyon blue

A soft breeze whispers gently from the east, sending bright ripples through the green-gold ocean of grass that stretches for miles past the crumbling ruins of the tower. Bouffant clouds race lazily across the calm sky in a never-ending celestial game of tag-you're-it, creating a patchwork of shadows over the endless fields below. The sun, smiling, gradually retreats beneath the safety of the darkening horizon, leaving the stars to play twinkling concerto of silver light in the midnight-indigo sky. A cool breath from the distant ocean heralds the arrival of the pink-orange-red skies of sunrise, building into a quiet wind that cascades and flashes over the golden-green plains surrounding the tower as it crumbles under a halcyon blue sky.

I wonder if anyone is still close enough to hear me whisper to myself.

gdc 1

Ooh, more footage of Fez!

I want this game. BAD. I love the whole sun-drenched late-afternoon pixel look, and the actual gameplay seems wonderful.
"very good! im pride". Classic. The broken english that the old geezer with the eye-patch speaks is pretty funny. It's a nice touch.

the joys of ms paint

I love MS Paint.

And while this was not made in MS Paint, it's still the most awesome picture ever:

splendid jetpack dreams of the apatosaurus named brontosaurus.

Whoa, look at that!
Coming soon: Jetpack Brontosaurus.
From the creators of Raptor Safari.

(As a side note, I finally figured out how to make the images link to a page, rather than the image source. Which means that all future images will be nicely clickable.)

this sucks

Uru Live canceled. Again.

Well, it's a rare thing to see a game get a second chance like this, but I guess it's just a flawed idea.

ice revolt

Me and David are thinking of starting a webcomic. He'll do writing and web-admin stuff, I'll do the art (maybe front-end stuff like design too). It might be great, but is probably going to end up falling flat due to a lack of motivation/time/lack of general skill.

We need:
    - Hosting for the comics (might be able to use dA for this.)
    - Domain name masking, maybe? That way we could keep it on Blog*Spot while having a unique name.
    - a better plan later

green evening stories

I found this webcomic called Buttercup Festival through the XKCD blag. Updated every Monday, it's filled with great pen-and-ink art as well as a great sense of whimsy. Sorta reminds me of Calvin and Hobbes, but much more non-sequitur.

Anyway, as I was browsing through the archives and some of his old art, I stumbled upon a sort of spin-off narrative graphic novel-thing that he never finished called Green Evening Stories. If Buttercup Festival had great art, this has Amazing-with-a-capital-A art. Every plate is a beautiful watercolor and ink painting, drawn with amazing attention to the color and composition of every element. Under the pseudonym Elliott G. Garbauskas, David Troupes paints swashes of rolling fields, dense and softly-hued forests, and vividly colored sunrises - all tied under an intriguingly epic narrative.

Check it out.

one hundred eleven

O Glorious Day! O Resplendent Day! It is with great pleasure that I unveil my newest offering to you, unwashed masses of the internet: Post number 111 of Halcyon Blue (formerly known as the fifteen-up). This post represents the passing of an feckless generation and the reception of a new age! An age of knowledge, an epoch of erudite exchanges! Come sheep-like denizens of the 'tubes, let us celebrate this momentous occasion with cheap paper cups filled to the brim with non-alcoholic sparkling cider:

To Progress!

To everything that the Future may have in store!

layout, part two

Things to do:

- Tweak header. I think a thin, black border around the image would be nice (sorta like what blogger already does). Eventually, I want to have the header display a random picture out of a predetermined set every time the page is refreshed. I might need external hosting to do that though.

- Move blog to < halcyonblue.blogger.com >. One of the great things about blogger is that you can change your Blog*Spot address whenever you want to whatever you want. I'll post before I move it.

- Update links.

- Learn CSS/HTML. I haven't started yet, but eventually it would be nice to have an original theme. Gwcloud, or cocoa maybe?

- Start to write more frequently.

- Set up static posts for main, about, links, etc. Not sure if I can do this though.

layout

I think it looks better now.

I finally realized how sick I was of the icky base templates (Like that puketacular yellowish one, or that retina-searing blue one. The silver one wasn't too bad though.), and went on teh intarwebz and started learning CSS and HTML. Gaze upon the effulgent design that I have managed to create with my neophytic skill, and wait with unbridled excitement for the day that I actually know enough code to create an original theme!

...And yes, I know that the header image is off-center.

It's decided. I'm gonna be entering in the Members' Winter Juried Show II at the NAA. Problem is, I'm not too sure what to submit: I've got my ideas, but I'd like to get some input from other people (i.e. you, Dylan). What do you think is my best photo? I'd like to print it 8.5x11, so one of my more recent ones might be better, but that's just a small portion of my work. Take a look at flickr.

Some of the ones I was considering:

learning photoshop/illustrator

I've decided to at least try to learn Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Here are the fruits of my labour so far, up on deviantART.
